A fire pit becomes part of an outdoor space even when the fire is out. Its proportions, material, and relationship to the surrounding architecture matter as much as the experience of gathering around it.
Choosing a plodes® fire pit starts with three considerations: how you want to use it, which form suits the setting, and what the installation requires.
Wood-burning or gas?
Wood offers the experience of building and tending a fire: adding logs, watching the embers, and gathering around its changing light. Explore our wood-burning fire pits for a range of sculptural forms.
Gas suits projects with a planned fuel supply and professional installation. Cone Gas is offered for natural gas. Wave Gas offers natural gas or fixed-supply propane configurations; it is not compatible with small propane bottles.
Before ordering a gas model, have your installer review the selected fire pit, supplied burner instructions, fuel supply, and applicable local requirements.
Choose a form for the space
The Geometric Fire Pit pairs a square footprint with angled interior walls. Its intersecting planes give it a distinct presence from different viewpoints.
Cone offers a tapered circular profile. The wood-burning version is reversible, with a different bowl depth in each orientation.
Wave uses a continuous sine-wave lower edge to form a three-point base.
Compare the overall dimensions on each product page with your seating arrangement and available space. Product dimensions are separate from the installation clearances required for safe use.
Corten weathering steel or stainless steel?
Our weathering-steel fire pits use quarter-inch A588 steel, commonly called Corten. Their rust patina changes with exposure and use, bringing variation to the surface.
Selected Cone and Wave designs are also offered in Type 304 stainless steel with a sandblasted finish. Check the individual listing for current material, size, and fuel options.
For either material, consider the surface beneath the fire pit and follow the model’s placement and care instructions. Weathering steel can produce rust-colored runoff that may mark surrounding surfaces.
Consider the accessories
Geometric fire pits offer an optional two-piece steel grate and cedar tabletop. The grate provides a surface for cookware, while its separate panels allow access to tend the fire. The tabletop is for use only when the fire is completely extinguished and the fire pit is cool.
Geometric also includes a stainless steel drain plug rod that helps retain coals during use and is removable for drainage or cleaning.
